The house was built in 1920 on the corner of Thurmond and Kilbourne, in the neighborhood Sheridan has always called Residence Hill. It’s a Victorian with the bones of a Victorian — the woodwork, the mouldings, the porch that wraps toward the light — and the quiet updates of a house still being lived in: new roof, new siding, a furnace that works, a steam shower in the primary bath, Wi-Fi that doesn’t fail mid-movie.
Six bedrooms. Two fireplaces. A finished Cellar. A covered Porch. A kitchen set up the way someone who actually cooks would set it up — good knives, real pans, a spice shelf with the names worn off the labels in the best places.
Sleeps twelve. Gathers more.

The Dining Room.
The dining room begs for attention — the kind it got when first built. The magnificent 35-inch crystal chandelier suspended from the roof and a wall of mirrors won't let you ignore the pure power of light. Dine in the splendor of days gone by.
If you've tried to establish a no-phones-at-dinner rule that hasn't succeeded, give it a try here at Gratitude. Electronics really don't seem to have a place here. A six-year-old may feel like sitting up a little taller. Teen diners may sense an extra dose of confidence. Adults may relax just a little more. And don't be surprised if seniors begin to recall in sweet detail moments from the past that were long forgotten.
We've tried to think of everything that will make sharing a meal at Gratitude a beautiful occasion. Ask, and a collection of conversation-starter cards to tax your intellect and sense of humor will be provided for your group.

The Living Room.
The living room is the room you'll find everyone in by accident. A large sectional wraps a low table that has held coffee in the morning, a board game by lunchtime, and a bottle of wine by dark.
There's a fireplace that works, a bookshelf with the kind of titles you actually want to pull down — local history, cookbooks worth the splatter, a few novels someone couldn't bear to leave behind — and afternoon light that arrives slowly through the west-facing windows and stays a long time.
It's the room that does the most quiet work in the house: where the small reunions begin, where the conversations no one planned somehow happen, and where, by the end of a long stay, you'll find yourself reluctant to leave.

The Garage Gym.

A small, deliberately simple gym is being built out in the garage off the back of the house — for guests who'd rather not lose their morning routine on the road, and for anyone who wants to shake out their legs after a long day in the Bighorns. It isn't ready yet. We'll write in the Letter when it opens.
