The Bunkhouse has a log-frame queen bed — a real one, made by hand, with the bark still visible at the joints. Wool blankets. A full ensuite bathroom of its own.
And then there are the closets. Both of them are decorated inside as canvas tents — actual tent fabric on the inside walls, a small camp lantern in each, the kind of thing that makes a six-year-old’s entire week. We installed them because Lucy’s grandkids slept in here once and the closets had no door for a weekend, and the kids made forts inside. We gave in. The forts became permanent.
Adults sleep in the queen. Kids set up in the closets if the weather’s right and they’ve earned it.
ABOUT THE CLOSETS
The closets are tents.
Both of them. Real canvas-tent fabric on the inside walls. A small lantern in each. The doors close. The kids set up their books, their flashlights, the snacks they were not supposed to bring upstairs. They sleep in the closets when the weather’s right and they’ve earned it. Adults sleep in the queen.
