Refuge is the master. A king bed under high ceilings, a daybed by the window for the early riser or the child who didn’t want to sleep down the hall. The bathroom is fully attached and not shared with anyone.
This is the room Lucy chose first when she walked the house with the realtor. It faces the morning light. The radiator clicks just enough in November to remind you the house is older than you are. The closet is generous; the desk is small but enough for a postcard or a letter.
If two of you have driven a long way to be here, this is the room. If you’re the host of the trip, this is also the room.
